One 14-year-old youth was discovered deceased only a few days following being wrongly blamed of taking the cremated remains of a deceased baby during a burglary, an inquest has heard.

Tragic Discovery

Kai Lloyd's mother and father found his remains in his bedroom at his Connah's Quay residence on November 19th, 2021.

Untrue Allegations Begin

The inquest learned how his parent got a message on 8 November 2021 via online platforms, from a individual inquiring if Kai was her child. The message added: "Tell him appreciation for burgling my apartment."

In a statement read to the proceedings, Lisa Lloyd said the woman had been in the news, claiming her infant's ashes had been stolen in a break-in - a allegation which was false.

Police Investigation

An official inquiry from police later concluded the alleged burglary complainant had "provided false information" and "evidence shows that the property was not stolen in the first place".

Media reports about the alleged stolen ashes attracted online comments, and although the teenager was not named in the posts, his mother said people "understood it was him".

The "social media content were extremely upsetting", she stated.

Mental Health Impact

She added that Kai had been identified with mild attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and as part of that disorder, other individuals' opinions really mattered to him.

"It would have hurt him deeply," she commented, "especially when this was not true".

Kai was detained at home, but nothing was discovered. He was taken to a police station and later released under investigation.

Police said they would be in touch, the hearing learned, but had failed to contacted the relatives by the moment of his death.

Withdrawal and Anxiety

His mother said Kai "became isolated" after the arrest and "would keep asking me whether I had heard anything from the authorities", because his ADHD meant sometimes "certain periods could feel like much longer".

When she spoke to him about the supposed incident, she said her son told her he had gone into the residence because the resident who lived there had said he could utilize the toilet anytime he wanted, but refuted removing anything.

Online Bullying

In a joint statement between her and her spouse, Mrs Lloyd said her son was being bullied digitally after the allegations.

The inquest learned that one 19-year-old encouraged the teenager to kill himself.

She had no worries on the night before he passed away, explaining how she had listened to him "laughing and teasing".

She portrayed him as a "compassionate, loving" young man, and said her "family is completely shattered".

He had been "clearly hiding his concerns", she said, noting that he could not stand to have anyone "think bad of him".

Educational Reaction

The inquest heard from educational personnel at the local High School.

On 8 November, she "overheard some boys discussing that the student had been detained and that was the initial I learned".

"He informed me... he'd was innocent," she continued.

After the conversation, the staff member said she rang the family's parents' landline and left a message saying she had communicated to the student about the allegations.

The court heard his family said they did not got that message.

Formal Finding

Lead investigator informed the inquest he would wait for documents regarding what enhancements had been made to handling individuals with ADHD, before determining whether he should make a prevention of future deaths report.

Delivering a descriptive finding, he stated: "Approximately November 8th, 2021, unsubstantiated allegations were made against the teenager, a 14-year-old individual.

"Likely untruths were subsequently embellished and amplified through the medium of online networks.

"During November 11th, he was interviewed by the police and after his interview he was freed while inquiries proceeded."

The coroner concluded: "There is no evidence that the actions or failures of any organization led to or added to his death and although it was the outcome of a self-inflicted action it is impossible to determine his purpose."
