Thomas Tuchel Expresses Disappointment Over Wembley Fan Atmosphere Following Emphatic Win Over Wales.
Thomas Tuchel voiced his sadness that the Three Lions team did not receive stronger support from the Wembley fans during their impressive friendly win against Wales on Thursday evening.
The manager was satisfied to see his squad continue their strong performance, with strikes from Rogers, Watkins, and Saka inside the opening quarter effectively ending the match. Yet, he was unhappy with the mood at the iconic venue.
“We had one and a half training days to get ready against a organized team and we excelled,” Tuchel stated. “We could have been five goals ahead at half-time. We missed the fourth and fifth ones. There was little noise. There was no any energy from the stands. We did everything to win.”
“What more can you give in the first quarter? We prevented them escape. If you hear just the Welsh supporters for half an hour, it’s disappointing because the team earned greater backing today.”
“I stand by my words. We cannot do more than leading 3-0 in a derby. I would have wished for a greater support in periods where it becomes tough.”
“After halftime, to cheer us on, there was a bit too much support for Wales. It might have aided us to recharge, but it is what it is and so be it.”
Squad Decisions Justified by Performance
Apart from potentially starting a dispute among fans, Tuchel also caused a stir by omitting Bellingham and Phil Foden from his team selection. Yet the move was justified by Morgan Rogers excelling in the No 10 position and netting his first international goal.
“That’s his style,” the head coach explained. “He operates as an attacking midfielder and he is vying for his position.”
Bellamy Hopes for Improvement from Defeat
The Wales manager expressed hope that his team, who face Belgium in a important qualifying match on next week, take lessons from their poor performance in the opening period.
“This is why I wanted this game,” Bellamy said. “I need to see our standing. Where do we want to go? What is our identity? This performance fills me with drive.”
Fitness Worry for Watkins
Watkins was taken off at half-time after colliding with a goalpost and will be a doubt when England play their next opponents in the Latvian capital in a World Cup qualifying match on Tuesday.
